Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur ‘ready to rival’ Arsenal for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are apparently in the battle to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

As per the Evening Standard, Spurs ‘are ready to rival’ the Gunners for the 22-year-old centre-back. He left Chelsea in the summer of 2021 and joined Palace, perhaps in search of playing time.

He only ever played two senior games for the Blues. This season, he has been one of Palace’s most regular starters, featuring in 36 games across competitions.

Guehi has clearly progressed well at Selhurst Park, developing into a fine young centre-back. He has already been capped thrice by England, which shows that his performances are being noticed by manager Gareth Southgate.

What next for Guehi and Spurs?

Spurs can use someone like him in their defence. Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga do not make the fans feel confident whenever they are on the pitch. Clement Lenglet’s loan spell from Barcelona also expires this summer.

Eric Dier and Cristian Romero need competition at the back. Guehi, 22, is also a homegrown player, which is always a bonus. A move to either of the north London giants could be seen as a step up for him as well. However, his contract expires only in the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).

We have to be wary of Arsenal’s interest in the player. The Gunners have come close to winning the Premier League title this season and seem like a more exciting project than the Lilywhites right now.

Let’s see who we appoint as our new manager. Perhaps that will give us a better idea of what kind of players we will be targeting. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Max Kilman has also been touted as a potential target.
