Hugo Lloris is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer with Gavin Bazunu eyed
Hugo Lloris is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window as a huge offer has apparently arrived from a Saudi Arabian club.
Despite having one year left on his contract with Spurs, (h/t Football Insider) the 36-year-old would depart the team in the summer and North Londoners also will not stand in his way.
Elite European teams are also interested in signing Lloris, who made 447 total appearances for the team over the course of his 11-year stay. During that time, he may not have won a trophy, but he was a major reason to inspire his team and has registered his name in Spurs folklore for his loyalty towards the club over a sustained period.
He has reached two FIFA World Cup finals as France’s captain but despite using this as a jump-pad to seek better offers, he remained at Spurs. Now, he is at the end of his playing days and it seems his best chance to maintain continuity as a first-team regular is to leave N17.
The champion of the 2018 World Cup moved to Tottenham from Lyon for a reported £11.8 million, and Mauricio Pochettino later designated him the club’s captain.
Spurs are also on the lookout for a goalkeeper replacement and are keeping an eye on Southampton’s Gavin Bazunu. The team has had a rough patch despite having a strong start to the season and being considered a title contender alongside Manchester City and Arsenal.
Before leaving the club with mutual consent, Antonio Conte brought out the club’s shortcomings, and things swiftly fell apart. The team is now seventh in the standings, nine points behind Manchester United in fourth.
Lloris is getting closer to retirement and has been sloppy this season, so getting a quality custodian remains a priority for next year. We had a strong start to the season, but we now stand a chance of not making the Champions League.
Spurs are interested in signing Gavin Bazunu, a 21-year-old who could cost the club little given that Southampton were relegated.
