Ryan Mason impressed with Yves Bissouma in Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa
According to the club’s official site, Tottenham Hotspur interim manager Ryan Mason has namedropped Yves Bissouma as a standout performer in their loss to Aston Villa.
The north Londoners fell to Villa 2-1 on Saturday, ending their chances of finishing in the top four. Unless the downward spiral is addressed soon, we might miss out on European football altogether.
Our performance on the night was questionable at best with several players failing to show intent. While the result more or less confirms it, Mason felt one returning ace made a telling difference.
Bissouma’s debut season at Tottenham has fallen way below expectations and he looks a shadow of the player who impressed at Brighton. The injury sustained against Manchester City last February was another setback, something he is recovering from only now.
The 26-year-old is stepping his game up of late and impressed off the bench last night. He came on and it helped Tottenham put up more of a fight in the second half. Mason clearly noted the difference he made in the post-match press conference.
“Yves helped, he adds a different dimension to our game. We have missed him. I felt he had an impact, both him and Deki when they came on.”
Having a player such as Bissouma in midfield is an asset in the Premier League. Not only is he a tidy passer of the ball but is also capable of winning the ball back consistently.
The energy and ability he brings to the table are major draws, something Tottenham can use to build up their roster next summer. Hopefully, we see more of the player who impressed at Brighton in the years to come.

It is a shame we missed him through injuries for a while. It would have disrupted his flow at his new club and he already didn’t get off to a great start under Antonio Conte. A new manager awaits and a new season promises a version of Bissouma fans saw when he was bossing Brighton’s midfield before his move to N17.
