Ben Jacobs says Newcastle are contenders for Tottenham target linked James Maddison

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Newcastle United are contenders for Tottenham Hotspur-linked English playmaker James Maddison.

Maddison, an English midfielder, has been on Spurs’ radar for quite some time, and recent reports indicate that the club is actively pursuing a deal. However, they are not alone in their interest.

Despite Leicester City’s underwhelming season, Maddison has been a standout performer when fit as an attacking midfielder, contributing nine goals and eight assists in the Premier League.

While his market value could have been higher, the fact that his contract expires next summer may allow Tottenham to secure his signature at a relatively low cost. Newcastle, on the other hand, has been interested in James Maddison since last year.

Despite the potential lure of Champions League football that Newcastle could offer, Ben Jacobs believes that Tottenham still holds an advantage. Here is what he had to say

“Tottenham have always had a long-standing interest. We now have to understand who their new sporting director and manager are, but they’re ones to watch over the summer”

“And I think that the concern for Newcastle may just be that Maddison may have his head turned by London and that might give Tottenham or another suitor an opportunity and advantage, but Newcastle will be there, for sure.”

He believes that the concern for Newcastle is that Maddison may have his head turned by the prospect of living in London, giving Tottenham or another suitor the opportunity and advantage.

In contrast, the situation at Tottenham is uncertain, with no permanent manager or sporting director appointed, and the future of star striker Harry Kane in doubt. This could put Maddison off.

Unless Tottenham resolves its internal matters promptly, attracting players of Maddison’s calibre may prove challenging, contrary to Jacobs’ claims. Potential suitors may be hesitant to join a club that lacks stability and direction.

Newcastle, under their new ownership, has demonstrated ambition and financial backing to compete at the highest level. This could be a compelling proposition for Maddison. Let’s see how this goes.
