Juventus ‘interested’ in Tottenham Hotspur target and Villarreal defender Pau Torres
Serie A giants Juventus are ‘interested’ in Tottenham Hotspur target and Villarreal star Pau Torres ahead of next summer, according to CalcioMercato.com via Fichajes.
The Turin-based club are seriously considering acquiring the services of the centre-back in the upcoming transfer window. However, the Spain international has a €65 million release clause in his contract.
But the 26-year-old’s existing deal with the Yellow Submarines expires in the summer of 2024. To that end, the Old Lady are hoping to negotiate with the Castellon-based club to reduce the centre-back’s price tag.
The Bianconeri are a little optimistic about getting a hold of Torres’ signature in the coming months. However, Spurs, as well as Premier League rivals Aston Villa, have the defender on their radar.
Earlier in the campaign, the Birmingham-based club appointed former Villarreal head coach Unai Emery in their dugout. The Spanish gaffer has the Lions challenging for a European spot in the league table.
As for Juventus, they have an ageing backline with the likes of Leonardo Bonucci and Danilo in their ranks. The Serie A giants are also out of the Champions League for next term as things stand.
Tottenham have struggled at the back for some time now. Eric Dier looked to be back to his best last season under Antonio Conte. But in the current campaign, the English national has been a liability.
Cristian Romero has also not been his resolute self over the last few months. We also have Ben Davies and Clement Lenglet, who is on loan from Barcelona, in our ranks. But they leave a lot to be desired at times.
