Liverpool join Tottenham Hotspur in race for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi
Premier League rivals Liverpool have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, according to the Daily Mail.
The Merseysiders have are now part of the long queue looking to acquire the England international’s services ahead of the upcoming transfer window. To that end, the Selhurst Park side could demand £50 million for him.
However, it remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp’s team will have the budget come next summer. As things stand, the Anfield side will prioritise bolstering their engine room in the coming months.
Guehi signed for the Eagles in the summer of 2021. His current contract with the South London-based club is set to run until June 2026. Also, the defender’s future will be determined once a new manager is appointed.
For now, the 22-year-old is thriving at Palace. Under Roy Hodgson, the Selhurst Park side have managed to turn things around. The English national has been pivotal for the South London club over the last few months, making 39 appearances in all competitions.
Liverpool have struggled this season, especially at the back. Virgil van Dijk has looked a shadow of his former self. The Holland international has also not had a stable partner in defence, with Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate both being injury-prone.
As for Tottenham, defending has not been our strong suit in the current campaign. Spurs have failed to keep clean sheets on a regular basis this term and have often had trouble holding onto leads.
Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Clement Lenglet and Davninson Sanchez have all been underwhelming in the 2022/23 campaign. We are currently eighth in the PL table.

Guehi is a talented and promising defender, someone we could evidently use in our ranks. However, will Spurs be able to beat Liverpool and other teams like Manchester United and Arsenal to the English national’s signature? Only time will tell.
