Simone Inzaghi to stay at Inter Milan amidst Tottenham Hotspur links
Giuseppe Marotta, the CEO of Inter Milan, has confirmed that Simone Inzaghi will continue as the Serie A giants’ head coach amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
The North London side have been linked with the Italian during their search for a new manager. Apart from the 47-year-old, Feyenoord’s Arner Slot, former Spain coach Luis Enrique and Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim have also been associated with taking over Spurs.
Speaking to Rai Italia (h/t Evening Standard), Marotta reiterated Inter’s position of keeping hold of Inzaghi ahead of next season. The Nerazzurri’s performances have solidified the Italian’s position.
“We never thought, not even for a second this year, of replacing Inzaghi. He has managed to strengthen his position thanks to the team’s performances, which are obviously the result of his guidance.
“His confirmation, speaking in percentage terms, is 100 per cent. He is and will be our coach again next year.”
The 47-year-old was appointed in the Serie A giants’ hot seat in the summer of 2021. After Antonio Conte had led the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side to the Scudetto, the former striker was unable to retain the title.
In the current campaign, Inter have once again been off the pace in the league. However, the Nerazzurri have impressed many with their displays in the Champions League and will face Manchester City in the final.
Inzaghi has vast experience in management. Before taking charge of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side, the Italian had done a decent job during his five-year stint at Lazio.
Tottenham are in dire need of a fresh face in the dugout. Since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure, there has seemingly been a revolving door policy at Spurs regarding the gaffer.
Conte was the latest permanent managerial appointment to fail at the North London side. Cristian Stellini also tried his hand, but the job proved too much for him. As things stand, Ryan Mason is in charge of the team.
