Tanguy Ndombele ‘respectfully’ tells Napoli he wants Tottenham Hotspur return

Tanguy Ndombele has apparently informed Napoli that he wants to return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The French midfielder has had trouble cementing himself at Spurs since his high-profile transfer from Olympique de Lyonnais in the summer of 2019. Be it Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte, Ndombele hasn’t found favour under any manager here.

Last summer, he was allowed to join Napoli on a season-long loan with an option to buy for €30million. According to French outlet Footmercato, the 26-year-old was asked by Napoli where he sees himself next season.

He respectfully by clearly told them that he wants to return to Spurs, where his contract runs until the summer of 2025. Frankly speaking, Spurs fans are majorly done with Ndombele.

A chance missed

He has had several opportunities to prove himself here but flashes of brilliance every now and then is all he has offered so far. Consistency has been lacking and his commitment on the pitch and out of possession has been questioned.

This would have been a good way for Spurs to rid themselves of the Frenchman and get something for it in return. Tottenham are yet to appoint their new permanent head coach.

It is safe to say that whoever they may be, would play an important role in deciding the fate of not just Ndombele, but other Spurs players who are out on loan – including Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon.

There can hardly be anything better for our midfield situation than to see Ndombele succeed here and make himself a regular starter. But that ship seems to have sailed. He may have won Serie A this season but there are question marks if he is worthy of a place in our starting XI.
