Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane says Artificial Intelligence can help reduce footballing injuries

Speaking to Reuters, Harry Kane, the star striker for Tottenham Hotspur, believes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play a pivotal role in preventing injuries in football.

Kane, who has faced his fair share of injuries throughout his career, including serious ankle and hamstring issues, has experienced firsthand the impact injuries can have on a player’s performance and overall well-being.

Having struggled with recurring ankle problems, Kane sought the expertise of renowned sports medicine specialist Dr Alejandro Elorriaga Claraco, who played a significant role in helping him overcome his long-standing issues.

Recognizing the importance of injury prevention, Harry Kane recently became an investor in OxeFit, a Canadian-based company that utilises cutting-edge technology to help athletes identify potential abnormalities and reduce the risk of injuries.

Expressing his concern about the increasing number of injuries among players, Kane emphasised the significance of utilizing AI in injury prevention. Here is what he had to say

“It’s been disheartening to witness some of the women players succumbing to major injuries, impacting their participation in this year’s Women’s World Cup. Injury prevention is of utmost importance to me, and with the continuous advancements in AI, we can expect significant improvements.”

Kane also highlighted the capabilities of OxeFit’s technology in detecting and rectifying imbalances between an athlete’s left and right side. He emphasised the consequences of favouring one side over the other, particularly when players are involved in consecutive matches.

By harnessing the power of AI, footballers and athletes across various disciplines can benefit from early detection of potential problems before they escalate into serious injuries. The integration of AI-driven technologies into sports medicine can revolutionise the field.

The potential impact of AI in injury prevention goes beyond professional athletes like Kane. The widespread application of such technology can benefit athletes at all levels, from grassroots to recreational players.
