Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae
According to Spazio Napoli, Tottenham Hotspur tried to make a significant defensive addition to their squad by targeting Napoli’s talented centre-back, Kim Min-jae, this summer.
The South Korean international, who has been a stalwart for the Italian club, has been linked with a move away from Napoli as the season draws to a close. The Premier League is always an attractive option for the club.
However, their pursuit was met with disappointment as the player had an existing agreement with Premier League rivals Manchester United, leading him to reject the opportunity to join Tottenham.
It is a blow for Tottenham, who will be seeking to bolster their defensive options in the upcoming transfer window. Kim Min-jae, at just 26 years of age, has already demonstrated his exceptional abilities as a centre-back.
The Premier League is renowned for its physicality and demanding nature, and there is little doubt that Min-jae possesses the qualities required to excel in England’s top flight. His commanding presence and defensive prowess could have made him a crucial player for Tottenham, providing much-needed stability at the back.
Now, the focus turns to whether Tottenham can secure adequate reinforcements for their defensive line in the coming weeks. The club will be eager to find a quality partner for the impressive Cristian Romero, who has been one of their standout performers this season.
Meanwhile, for Kim Min-jae, the move to Manchester United represents an opportunity to challenge himself at an even higher level. They also have Champions League football to offer which we don’t.
Tottenham’s defensive vulnerability has been evident throughout the season, with players like Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez attracting interest from other clubs. Additionally, Clement Lenglet, who arrived on loan from Barcelona, is expected to return to his parent club.
