26-year-old Tottenham target keen to stay at Barcelona

Franck Kessie keen on Barcelona stay amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest

Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie is keen on staying at Barcelona ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to the player’s agent via the Mirror.

As per Spanish outlet AS (h/t Mirror), the Ivory Coast international was set to be one of the first stars to depart the Blaugrana this summer. The midfielder was also said to have held a meeting with Xavi, where the gaffer had made it clear that he would be sold.

The 26-year-old had also seemingly come to terms with the decision. Liverpool, Spurs and Inter Milan have all been linked with him. However, it looks like the former AC Milan star will stay at the La Liga outfit.

Kessie signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2022 as a free agent. It looked like the Ivorian was about to leave the Camp Nou side after just one season. But his camp has rubbished the talks of the midfielder departing.

The 26-year-old established himself as one of the best players in Serie A with AC Milan. In the 2021/22 campaign, he was a pivotal part of Stefano Pioli’s team as they lifted the Scudetto.

But at the Blaugrana, Kessie has found game time hard to come by. While the Ivorian got on the pitch regularly for the Camp Nou side this season, he started in just seven league matches.

Tottenham have struggled from back to front over the last few months. In the middle of the park, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been one of the few standouts in the team. Rodrigo Bentancur was also decisive for us before his injury.

Yves Bissouma, who signed for the North London side last summer from Brighton & Hove Albion, has been underwhelming. Oliver Skipp has not had a big enough impact, either.

Therefore, we could do with a bit more quality in the engine room. Kessie is a robust box-to-box midfielder. But it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old’s future will be away from Barcelona in the coming months.
