Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Roger Ibanez from AS Roma

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign talented central defender Roger Ibanez from Serie A outfit Roma.

With AS Roma looking to balance their financial books and adhere to the Financial Fair Play regulations, it seems that they will have to part ways with some of their valuable assets and Ibanez could be that person.

Initially, they had hoped to offload their star striker Tammy Abraham, but his recent injury may complicate matters, leading them to consider other alternatives. A move for the English striker is almost ruled out now.

The interest in Ibanez is not limited to Tottenham, as several clubs have expressed their desire to secure his services. However, Tottenham Hotspur appears to be leading the race, positioning themselves as the prime destination for the 24-year-old defender.

The Italian outlet has mentioned that AS Roma value the talented Ibanez within the price range of €35m to €40m, an investment that Tottenham appears willing to make to bolster their defensive ranks.

This acquisition would align with their plans for a squad overhaul this summer, under the guidance of their new manager, Ange Postecoglou, who aims to shape the team according to his preferred style of play.
