Tottenham Hotspur could sign Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet for just €6m
Tottenham Hotspur could seal a bargain deal for Clement Lenglet from Barcelona during the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Barca have been asking for €12million for the former Sevilla centre-back. However, with Spurs unwilling to budge, the amount could be around €6million.
That is an absolute steal for a player like Lenglet. The French centre-back is 27 years old – enough experience at the top level and not too old to be handed a long-term deal.
There is absolutely no reason why Spurs shouldn’t go ahead with this move. He played a decent amount of games this season – 35 times across competitions, to be precise.
No-brainer for Spurs
But he hasn’t been visibly dejected or upset when he hasn’t made the starting XI. That is just the kind of role we should have for him – not a pinned starter but a centre-back always competing for a first-team position.
Barcelona could also profit from the move. They can apparently save €18million in wages per year by selling him. It is clear they don’t need him, hence the loan move to Spurs last summer.
Spurs have been smart in the negotiations and it seems they can, as a result, have a bargain buy on their hands. This doesn’t mean we don’t chase a world-class centre-back in the summer.
Cristian Romero and Lenglet are quality while Eric Dier is decent enough to make the cut but apart from that, we need serious quality at the back – an experienced, world-class centre-back capable of being a real leader of men at the back.
