Tottenham Hotspur fan banned from attending matches for three years for his action towards Liverpool fans

A Tottenham Hotspur fan has apparently been banned from attending football matches for three years after what he did against Liverpool at Anfield on April 30.

The Crown Prosecution Service said (h/t the Independent) that Kieron Darlow (25) made mocking gestures towards Liverpool fans at Anfield in a bid to mock the Hillsborough tragedy.

He admitted that he was aware of his actions and that he wanted Liverpool fans to see his gestures – made in a mocking way towards the Hillsborough tragedy – despite knowing the impact the disaster had on the lives of Liverpool fans.

97 Liverpool fans died as a result of a crush at the Hillsborough Stadium in 1989. An inquest in 2016 cleared the fans in attendance of any wrongdoings and confirmed they were unlawfully killed as a result of numerous police errors.

The right call by the Premier League

There are some lines that are absolutely not meant to be crossed. No matter the emotions and tension in a game, fans have to keep their actions in check and be more empathetic towards other fellow human beings.

Tragedies like the Hillsborough disaster go way beyond just football. It is an example of how regular matchday fans could suffer at the hands of authorities if they don’t function in a proper manner.

There wouldn’t have been any complaints from the football fanbase as a whole if the aforementioned fan’s ban was a lifetime one, rather than just three years. Hopefully, that is long enough for him to reflect on his actions.
