Leicester are seeking around £80million for Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison
According to The Independent’s Reading the Game newsletter, which was written by journalist Miguel Delaney, Leicester are expecting close to £80 million for Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison, but the situation surrounding the player’s future is far from straightforward.
Tottenham and Newcastle, the two clubs reportedly interested in signing the talented midfielder, seem unwilling to meet Leicester’s lofty valuation. However, there might be a glimmer of hope for Spurs as Maddison is believed to have a preference for a move to London.
Throughout the 2022/23 season, James Maddison showcased his skills and proved to be a standout performer for Leicester City, despite their unfortunate relegation to the Championship. He is almost undoubtedly set to leave the club.
The 26-year-old midfielder was in scintillating form, contributing ten goals and nine assists in 32 appearances for the Foxes. His consistent displays not only caught the attention of potential suitors but also earned him a well-deserved spot in the England squad.
The recent appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the manager of the North London side has further fueled speculation, with Maddison reportedly topping their transfer wish list. Tottenham seem keen on getting him at all costs.
However, Newcastle United have also thrown their hat into the ring, expressing their interest in securing Maddison’s services. Despite the competition, it seems that Tottenham has taken the initiative by making an initial bid for the creative playmaker, along with his Leicester teammate Harvey Barnes.
Leicester’s asking price for Maddison reportedly stands at a staggering £80 million, a figure that surpasses both Tottenham and Newcastle’s valuation by £30 million. It remains to be seen whether either club will meet this demanding price tag.
In Tottenham’s favour, it appears that Maddison has a preference for a move to London, citing “family reasons” as a contributing factor. This could potentially give Spurs an advantage in the race for his signature.
