Ben Jacobs says Lorient want Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks
According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, Lorient, a French club in Ligue 1, have expressed a keen interest in acquiring Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou, the manager, is reportedly determined to trim down the team’s bloated roster. It’s highly likely that Winks, who spent the previous season on loan at Sampdoria, finds himself on the list of players destined for departure.
Despite enduring some injury setbacks, the Tottenham academy graduate showcased his abilities admirably during the latter half of the campaign at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. His performances caught the attention of various clubs.
Leeds United are eyeing a potential move for the 27-year-old as they seek an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation. However, Harry Winks might not want to drop a level down.
However, it seems that Postecoglou intends to carefully evaluate Winks’ prospects during the pre-season before making a final decision on his future. Jacobs believes that the midfielder’s journey at Tottenham will come to an end sooner rather than later.
Speaking on the Last Word On Spurs Podcast, Jacobs expressed his views on Winks, stating
“There is some interest from Lorient as well, the club in which Bournemouth owner Bill Foley holds a thirty-three per cent stake. I do believe Winks will find a suitable destination, but it won’t be Sampdoria, and I don’t think he’ll remain at Tottenham either.”
Lorient’s interest in the English international opens up the possibility of a new adventure in France’s top flight. Lorient, a club backed by Bill Foley’s investment, could offer Winks an enticing opportunity to continue his development in a different league.
As Winks seeks to secure his place in the international setup, a fresh start at Lorient might provide him with the necessary platform to showcase his abilities on a consistent basis. The Englishman is still young enough to turn his career around.
