Fenerbahce among clubs eyeing Tottenham Hotspur’s Ivan Perisic

Antonio Conte brought Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan to Tottenham Hotspur last summer on a free transfer.

The two worked to great effect together with I Nerazzurri, where they won the Scudetto in the 2020-21 season. Perisic fits Conte’s philosophy.

He is an ultra-attacking wing-back who can also fulfil his duties at the back when required. But Conte liked his full-backs to play akin to wingers at times.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, however, Perisic doesn’t seem willing to continue at Spurs under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Fenerbahce and Saudi Arabian clubs are said to be interested in him. It remains to be seen what the Australian-Greek coach has in mind for him.

Perisic to leave Spurs?

But there is no guarantee that the 34-year-old Croatian legend is a regular fixture for him at Spurs. If Tottenham play four at the back, Perisic isn’t suited to playing as a left-back.

He isn’t a defender. Son Heung-min, meanwhile, is an unrivalled starter for us down the left-wing spot. Perisic could provide depth as a backup winger and an emergency full-back.

But this Bundesliga and Serie A-winning, 2018 FIFA World Cup silver medalist we are talking about. He probably won’t settle for that role and that too at a time when we can’t offer him European football.

Fenerbahce aren’t the most coveted European club but they can offer Perisic a competitive environment to play in. Saudi Pro League clubs, meanwhile, have been making huge waves this summer.

It could be a lucrative chance for the Croat to ply his trade in the Middle East. But it remains to be seen if Perisic is willing to call time on European football already — at a time when he hasn’t shown signs of slowing down.
