Italian legend Giovanni Galli not happy about Guglielmo Vicario’s move to Tottenham
Italian legend Giovanni Galli has expressed his discontent with Guglielmo Vicario’s move to Tottenham Hotspur, stating his disappointment at seeing such a talented player leave Serie A.
While Guglielmo Vicario may not be a household name among Premier League fans, the Tottenham faithful are buzzing with excitement due to the glowing recommendations he has received from those closely following Italian football.
The Italian shot-stopper has even garnered praise from two legendary compatriots, Gianluca Pagliuci and Gianluigi Buffon, who lauded him as one of the finest goalkeepers in Serie A throughout the 2022-23 season.
Giovanni Galli firmly believed that Vicario’s signing was precisely the type of acquisition Fiorentina needed to elevate their performance to the next level. However, Tottenham leapfrogged all the clubs in the race.
During an interview with Tuttomercatoweb, the former Fiorentina and AC Milan shot-stopper expressed his disappointment.
“When (players like Vicario) go abroad, I’m always disappointed. Also because they are replaced by foreign goalkeepers. We have many young players ready for the big leap but it takes courage. I’m p***** off. (But) I’m not the manager of Fiorentina. They make the choices. If Fiorentina wants to raise their level, it must have certainties in their spine”
While Galli’s frustration stems from his desire to witness Fiorentina succeed, Tottenham supporters are eager to witness the promising goalkeeper’s abilities in action. He could be the long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.
The disappointment conveyed by Giovanni Galli regarding Guglielmo Vicario‘s departure reflects the sentiment of many Fiorentina supporters. Vicario’s move to Tottenham Hotspur has left an undeniable void in the ranks of Serie A.
Vicario has the talent to become one of the best goalkeepers in the English top flight. Although not many of them here know about him yet, Tottenham could have gotten their hands on a gem here.
