Paul Merson believes Tottenham star Kane will score more goals thanks to James Maddison
Speaking to Sky Sports, Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Tottenham star Harry Kane will flourish with the presence of James Maddison.
Addressing the rumours of Kane’s potential move to Bayern Munich, Merson dismissed the idea as nonsensical. He emphasized the significance of Kane’s proximity to Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal-scoring record and argued that a move to the Bundesliga would be a wasted opportunity for the England captain.
However, Merson’s optimism extends beyond dismissing transfer speculations. The 55-year-old pundit suggests that James Maddison’s arrival at Tottenham would significantly enhance Kane’s goal-scoring prospects.
Indeed, Maddison’s skill set perfectly complements Harry Kane‘s attacking prowess. The creative midfielder possesses the vision and technique to unlock defences, providing Kane with more opportunities to find the back of the net.
This partnership is not only promising for Kane but also for other Tottenham attacking players, such as Richarlison, who is in dire need of rediscovering his goal-scoring form. Maddison will help such players.
Speaking about the situation, here is what Merson had to say about Kane and Maddison
“He scored 30 league goals last season for Tottenham, for Tottenham. And who’s playing with him at Spurs? He has to do it all himself virtually. If he stays at Spurs next season with James Maddison now there, I dread to think how many goals he will get”
Despite enduring a relatively underwhelming season, Son’s performance was hindered by a nagging hernia problem. With a dedicated provider like Maddison in the squad, Son can expect improved service, potentially reigniting his goal-scoring touch.
Looking ahead, Tottenham’s summer business appears to be gaining momentum under the guidance of manager Angelos Postecoglou. The club has been linked with potential signings such as Edmond Tapsoba and Manor Solomon, indicating their ambition to strengthen the squad further.
