Napoli look to use Champions League football to attract Tottenham Hotspur target and Wolves defender Max Kilman

Serie A champions Napoli will look to use the attraction of Champions League football to pip Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Max Kilman, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport via TuttoNapoli.

The Partenopei are interested in acquiring the services of the English national in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, they even made a €35 million offer for the defender, which was rejected by Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As things stand, the Naples-based club hope that the Molineux Stadium side will accept their bid for the centre-back. But Spurs are also in the running to get a hold of the 26-year-old’s signature.

However, Kilman wants to play UCL football, which Napoli will be able to offer next season. Unfortunately, the North London side will not be in any European competition after finishing eighth in the Premier League.

Thus, the Partenopei have the upper hand in the pursuit of the English national at the moment. However, Tottenham have their own pedigree and it remains to be seen whether the centre-back will want to move abroad.

Kilman has only recently established himself in the top flight. In the 2021/22 season, the 26-year-old made a place for himself in Wolves’ starting lineup. In the previous campaign, the centre-back was a key player for them.

At Tottenham, the defence has looked shabby for some time now. Cristian Romero has been our only reliable player in the backline. Even the Argentine was a bit inconsistent last season.

We seemingly cannot go with Eric Dier and Ben Davies as our first choice. It will be interesting to see whether Ange Postecoglou will play four or five at the back. Still, with Davinson Sanchez as the other option in our ranks, we seemingly need another quality central defender, barring any departures.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Spurs will decide to compete with Napoli for Kilman. Will the English national be open to joining the Italian champions this summer? Only time will tell.
