Eric Dier has no intention of leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Eric Dier has no intention of parting ways with the North London side in the ongoing transfer window, according to football.london.

The England international is in the final 12 months of his current contract at the Lilywhites. However, the defender is ‘excited’ to start the upcoming campaign under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Towards the end of the 2022/23 season, the 29-year-old was sidelined after undergoing a groin surgery. But he has returned from his injury and was part of Spurs’ training session this week.

Tottenham signed Dier in the summer of 2014 from Sporting CP. Over the years, the English national has played different roles at the North London side and has been ever-present in the senior squad.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, the 29-year-old evolved from a right-back to a defensive midfielder and then played as a central defender. His versatility has been an asset for us over the years.

Unfortunately, Dier has seen many ups and downs in his form at the Lilywhites. The English national has not been able to find consistency in his performances at Spurs.

In the previous campaign, the centre-back was a key player for Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason. But Tottenham struggled massively to keep the ball out of the back of the net.

Apart from the 29-year-old, most of our other defenders were underwhelming as well. Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez and Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet did not pull up any trees either. Also, World Cup winner Cristian Romero was not at his best.

Therefore, we evidently need an overhaul of our backline. If Dier is happy to stay at the club as a backup, then so be it. However, the North London side seemingly cannot trust the English national to be a reliable starter.
