VfL Wolfsburg increase Micky van de Ven price tag amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg have increased the price tag of Micky van de Ven to around £40 million amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Wolfsburger Allgemeine (h/t Express).
Spurs have identified the Holland national as one of their top targets to bolster the backline in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the North London side were progressing in their bid to sign the defender permanently.
However, now, the German side have put a spanner in the Lilywhites’ pursuit. The Volkswagen Arena side have changed their demands to part ways with the 22-year-old and are open to keeping a hold of him.
Ange Postecoglou wants to bolster his defence this summer with some fresh blood. However, Tottenham are nowhere near Wolfsburg’s valuation of Van de Ven as things stand.
The Holland national made his way through the youth ranks at Volendam in the Netherlands before the Bundesliga outfit came knocking in the summer of 2021.
In the defender’s debut campaign in Germany, he did not get a lot of opportunities and was mostly a bit-part player. However, last season, the 22-year-old broke into the Volkswagen Arena side’s first team and became a key player for them.
Tottenham evidently need to add reinforcements in their defence. Davinson Sanchez wants to leave the club in the coming weeks. Clement Lenglet has also gone back to Barcelona after his loan spell at the North London side.
As things stand, we have Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies as the other centre-backs in our ranks. However, all three of them were underwhelming in the 2022/23 term as Spurs struggled to keep clean sheets.

Van de Ven is a promising talent. However, Tottenham should not be extorted in their pursuit of the Holland national. There are other good defenders we can make a move for. Therefore, it would be wise for the North London side to focus on other targets if the German side do not change their position.
