Tottenham target Clement Lenglet given permission to miss Barcelona training
Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet continues, with the latest report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo shedding light on the ongoing negotiations.
Last summer, Spurs secured Lenglet’s services on loan from Barcelona, viewing him as a temporary solution to their pressing need for a reliable centre-back. Unfortunately, the club’s pursuit of their top-priority defensive targets yielded no success.
In a recent announcement, Barcelona disclosed that Lenglet has been granted permission to delay his return to training until July 18th. This development implies that the Catalan giants still expect the Frenchman to depart this summer.
Nevertheless, it seems that Lenglet’s contributions have left a lasting impression on Barcelona’s hierarchy, who are now exploring the possibility of signing him permanently, albeit at a reduced price.
Additionally, Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed ongoing discussions with Tottenham, expressing confidence in reaching an agreement for the talented centre-back this time around.
Barcelona’s precarious financial situation has led them to seek profitable departures for players who are not part of Xavi Hernandez’s plans. Lenglet finds himself within this category, presenting Tottenham with an opportunity to capitalize on the Spanish club’s predicament.
Although initial estimations suggested a swift resolution, the process has taken longer than anticipated. As a result, fans are left to wonder about the potential hurdles impeding the completion of this significant acquisition.
Tottenham’s defensive restructuring is set to extend beyond the potential addition of Lenglet. The club is expected to part ways with Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez this summer, allowing for the recruitment of fresh faces to bolster the backline.
