Barcelona will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Joan Gamper Trophy pre-season friendly

Tottenham Hotspur are set to face Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy, which will be the Blaugrana’s final pre-season friendly, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The North London side will take on the Catalan outfit at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. It will serve as the opening of the La Liga giants’ temporary stadium, with the Camp Nou under construction.

But first, Spurs are set to travel to Australia, Thailand and Singapore to take on the likes of West Ham United, Leicester City and AS Roma to prepare for the start of the 2023/24 term. We also have a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk at home.

Barcelona will be an exciting challenge for Tottenham. The Blaugrana won La Liga last season. They have some of the best players at their disposal in Robert Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri.

Spurs will not be playing in any European competition next season. As a result, it will be good to see us go up against the five-time Champions League winners in Spain.

It remains to be seen how the North London side’s squad will shape up by then. We have already signed James Maddison from Leicester and have completed the addition of Manor Solomon on a free transfer.

However, a number of players could potentially depart Tottenham by then. As things stand, Harry Kane is being tipped to join Bayern Munich in the ongoing transfer window, with his contract expiring next summer.

Hopefully, Spurs will be able to keep a hold of their talisman. The pre-season is also a chance to see how the new signings go about their business. It will also be interesting to look at those returning from loan, like Tanguy Ndombele.
