Barcelona not budging on Tottenham Hotspur target Clement Lenglet price tag

Tottenham Hotspur have been unable to convince Barcelona to lower their price tag for Clement Lenglet so far this summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The Blaugrana have remained firm and are not budging from their €15 million valuation on the defender’s head. As a result, negotiations between the North London side and the Catalan outfit are not advancing.

It remains to be seen who will give in first. Spurs want to pay a minimal amount of €5 million to take the France international off of the Camp Nou side’s hands. Although, the Lilywhites are willing to present a contract that would satisfy the 28-year-old, who currently earns a lot at the La Liga giants.

Due to the high wage, Barcelona want to get Lenglet off their books. To that end, the Blaugrana have set a deadline and do not want the defender to travel with the squad on their pre-season tour to the USA in the coming days.

Tottenham realise the Camp Nou side’s desperation and are seemingly playing the waiting game. Hopefully, it is the Catalan outfit who will crack and accept the North London side’s terms.

In the 2022/23 term, the French national was on loan at Spurs. At the Lilywhites, the 28-year-old was a key player in the first-team setup. While the centre-back put in some decent displays, overall, we were unconvincing defensively last season.

Lenglet played alongside Cristian Romero and Eric Dier on a number of occasions in the previous campaign. Unfortunately, apart from the World Cup-winning Argentine, none of our defenders were consistent enough.

Keeping clean sheets was a struggle for Tottenham last season. We were also fragile at the back and were unable to hold on to leads as a result.

While Lenglet did not convince in the last few months at the club to get a spot in the starting lineup, the French national showed decent abilities and has the talent to add depth in our backline. But it will be interesting to see whether Daniel Levy will look to find a middle ground with Barcelona.
