Chelsea defender Levi Colwill eyed by Tottenham Hotspur amidst Micky van de Ven concern
Tottenham Hotspur have Chelsea defender Levi Colwill on their radar amidst concerns regarding the signing of Micky van de Ven, according to the Evening Standard.
Spurs have already held talks with the Holland international, who is their primary defensive target. However, the North London side fear that Premier League rivals Liverpool might hijack the move for the 22-year-old.
To that end, Tottenham have Colwill on their radar. The Lilywhites have joined a long list of admirers of the English national, who won the U21 European Championship recently.
However, Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with the promising centre-back. They have offered the youngster a new contract. However, the 20-year-old wants assurances over his game time before putting pen to paper on a new deal.
To that end, Mauricio Pochettino is expected to hand the defender a first-team role in the upcoming campaign. However, he faces competition from the likes of Thiago Silva, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah.
It remains to be seen what Colwill will decide regarding his future. The English national is not short of potential suitors. Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion are also eyeing him.
Tottenham evidently need to bolster their backline this summer after struggling defensively last season. We have lost depth with Clement Lenglet returning to Barcelona. Davinson Sanchez is also expected to leave in the coming weeks.
Cristian Romero has been our only consistent defender for some time now. Eric Dier has been in and out of form. On the other hand, Ben Davies has been played out of position by previous managers.
