LOSC Lille and Rennes want Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr on loan
Tottenham Hotspur youngster Pape Matar Sarr is attracting interest from LOSC Lille and Stade Rennais (Rennes) this summer, according to French outlet Le10 Sport.
The two Ligue 1 outfits have joined Olympique Marseille in the race to acquire the 20-year-old’s services on loan in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the North London side could part ways with the midfielder in the coming weeks.
However, Spurs are yet to make a decision on the Senegal international’s immediate future. However, the three French sides are expected to battle it out to get a hold of his signature.
Tottenham signed Sarr in the summer of 2021 from FC Metz before loaning him back immediately to the Ligue 1 outfit. At the Lorraine-based club, the youngster had thrived.
He established himself as a key player for the Maroons in the 2021/22 term before making his way to Tottenham. However, the 20-year-old was unable to get a lot of opportunities at the North London side last season.
In the previous campaign, he made 14 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites, providing one assist. The Senegalese evidently needs regular game time to develop.
Sarr was unable to make a big enough impact last season. Therefore, it seems wise to send the youngster away on a temporary move for now. We have enough talent in the middle of the park, with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur playing a big role in the previous campaign.
Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso have also returned from their respective loan spells. Even if Tottenham were to approve a few departures from the engine room, it would still seemingly be tough for Sarr to get into the starting lineup.
