Rio Ferdinand names Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as dream Manchester United signing
Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane would be a dream signing for the Red Devils this summer.
The Old Trafford side were interested in the England international in the ongoing transfer window. However, the Manchester-based club look to have pulled out of the race for now.
However, speaking to TNT Sports (h/t Metro), Ferdinand, who played for United for 12 years and won multiple Premier League titles, feels the Red Devils need a striker. The ex-defender believes Spurs talisman would be a prolific addition to the Old Trafford side’s squad.
“It’s been well documented that Manchester United need a No. 9. The striker they had at the club last season [Weghorst] did not score goals.
“Harry Kane would be my dream signing. Victor Osimhen would be a great addition, too. But if I’m Erik ten Hag, I’d go for Kane because he will deliver immediate goals.”
As things stand, United have just one natural number nine in Anthony Martial in their ranks. The French national has been injury prone at the Old Trafford side for the last few months.
In January, the Red Devils signed Wout Weghorst to provide cover up front. However, the Holland national was arguably not up to their standards. Thus, it is understandable that Ferdinand wants to see Kane at the Manchester-based club.
Tottenham have relied on the 29-year-old to find the back of the net on a consistent basis season after season. In the previous campaign, the English skipper was the only forward we were able to count on, as he scored 32 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.
Therefore, it is encouraging that United are no longer pursuing Kane as things stand. Unfortunately, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and French champions Paris Saint-Germain also have him on their radar.
If we were to lose the English national this summer, it would evidently be a big blow for us. The North London side have Richarlison in the squad. However, the Brazil international has been unable to make an impact at the club so far.

It would be wise for Tottenham to keep a hold of the 29-year-old. However, whether United or any other team will be able to entice him away from Spurs remains to be seen.
