Tottenham Hotspur have placed a £100 million price tag on Harry Kane

According to The Times (Subscription Required), North London giants Tottenham Hotspur are seeking a transfer fee of £100 million for star striker Harry Kane who has rejected a contract extension at the N17.

The 29-year-old has decided against penning a new offer and could potentially leave for free in the summer of 2024. It would represent a nightmare scenario for Daniel Levy to lose his best asset for nothing.

Kane is free to reach an agreement with foreign clubs from January 1 2024, meaning Spurs must either get him to extend his contract or sell him this summer. With the former appearing unlikely, it remains to be seen if the English skipper has played his final competitive game in white.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has an important decision to make.

Tottenham and England’s record goalscorer, Kane is one of the finest number nines in world football and will have no shortage of suitors. German champions Bayern Munich have had two bids turned down for his services and could yet return with an improved offer.

Levy appears to have accepted to some degree that an exit could materialise, hence the massive £100 million asking price. It comfortably dwarfs the current club record fee that we received when Gareth Bale left for Real Madrid in 2013.

Set to turn 30 in the coming days, Kane’s legacy at Tottenham is more or less cemented. While he has put up several records for the history books, none of it has led to any silverware. One cannot afford to blame the forward should he seek greener pastures elsewhere.

While Bayern continues to circle, it remains to be seen if they will take the bait and meet Levy’s asking price for his star man. It could be a tough ask indeed given that he could join the Bavarian giants for free in just a year’s time.

Replacing Kane could prove to be Levy’s biggest task yet this summer. The English ace is a difference maker upfront and there are few players in world football who can perform at a similar level. All eyes will be on Kane and what he decides to do in the coming weeks.
