Negotiations between Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur for Clement Lenglet hit a snag
Tottenham Hotspur have hit a snag in their negotiations for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet in the ongoing transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
Spurs are interested in acquiring the services of the French national on a permanent basis this summer. However, talks between the North London side and the Blaugrana have become ‘complicated’.
As things stand, the La Liga giants are keen on adding a new right-back to their ranks. To that end, the Catalan outfit are looking to make space in the squad with the departure of the 28-year-old centre-back. However, they have not been able to agree terms with the Lilywhites so far.
Barcelona signed Lenglet in the summer of 2018 from Sevilla. Subsequently, the French national became a key player for them. However, the arrival of Xavi in the Spanish outfit’s dugout has led to the defender falling down the pecking order.
Subsequently, last summer, Tottenham took a chance on the centre-back and signed him on loan. The 28-year-old played a considerable role in our team in the previous campaign.
Lenglet made 35 appearances in all competitions for us last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Unfortunately, the French national made a few errors at the North London side.
Overall, Spurs’ defence was in tatters in the 2022/23 term. The 28-year-old was a big part of the starting lineup and left a lot to be desired at times. However, the supporting cast around the 28-year-old struggled as well.
Eric Dier has been the leader in Tottenham’s backline for some time now. But the England international’s inconsistency has been frustrating. Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez have not played much for us in recent months and it would not be a surprise if they were to depart.

Therefore, while Lenglet did not convince to be given a starting spot last season, the French national is now a known quantity for the club and would arguably be a decent option to add depth in our backline.
