According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are ramping up their efforts to land Manchester United star Harry Maguire in the ongoing 2023 summer transfer window.

The North London giants are keen to bounce back after a poor 2022-23 campaign and are rebuilding under Ange Postecoglou. The Australian has a big task ahead of him and will need to be given the tools to revive our fortunes.

Several players have been signed already but one major area that still needs addressing is the defence. A centre-back is on the agenda with Postecoglou going as far as to openly call for additions in the position.

Tottenham have so far been linked with Edmond Tapsoba and Micky Van de Ven from Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg respectively. However, neither player has signed yet and the longer the saga drags on, the unlikelier it appears to go through.

We now appear to be looking for a solution closer to home with Maguire in our sights. The English veteran has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford and has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

He is currently behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the centre-back roster at the Theatre of Dreams. With Victor Lindelof also in the fray, it is now the right time for the 30-year-old to seek a new challenge.

Maguire was recently stripped of his captaincy and it provides a clear indication of where he stands at Manchester United. Tottenham have every reason to be wary of signing a player who has consistently struggled to impress but as long as Postecoglou is keen on a move, Daniel Levy must oblige.

The manager, after all, knows what he needs best and might be able to coax the best out of Maguire in white. The English veteran is by no means a bad player and has struggled under the weight of expectations and bias at Old Trafford. Surely the chance for him to rekindle his fortunes at N17 would prove to be a tempting proposition.

Maguire isn’t just ane experienced player who knows the Premier League inside out but is also familiar with the leadership role at the back. It will certainly be a boost to add a player of such calibre to a Spurs defence that was more porous than solid last season.
