Tottenham Hotspur emerge as candidates for Real Madrid target and PSG megastar Kylian Mbappe
Tottenham Hotspur are apparently a potential candidate to sign Real Madrid target and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Kylian Mbappe.
According to MARCA, the 24-year-old wants to go to Real Madrid if he leaves PSG. Just like Harry Kane, Mbappe has entered the final year of his contract.
And just like Kane, there are no signs that the France captain wants to extend his deal at his current club. Enter Spurs.
The report says PSG and Tottenham have been in contact this summer over Kane, 29, who Spurs may lose on a free next summer if they don’t sell him off right now. If this happens, Tottenham would need someone to fill Kane’s boots.
Spurs for Mbappe?
But this scenario looks very unlikely from the get-go. Tottenham are giants in European football but, like most superclubs in Europe, cannot offer consistent domestic silverware and UEFA Champions League participation like PSG or Real Madrid can right now.
That is the harsh truth. Spurs, given their status, should be involved in such high-profile transfer races. If it is about money, then the Tottenham faithful would undoubtedly want Daniel Levy to throw money at Mbappe.
But if it is about ambition, then Spurs are lagging behind right now. Of course, we can entice Mbappe by saying that he can be the talisman our team needs to finally win silverware for the first time since 2008.
However, it remains to be seen if Mbappe would change his mind about a potential move to Real Madrid. Spurs would be better off putting all the cash they can behind a possible renewal for Kane.
