Olympique Marseille interested in Tottenham Hotspur target and Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet

Tottenham Hotspur target and Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is attracting interest from Olympique Marseille this summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The Ligue 1 outfit are looking to bolster their defence in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Orange Velodrome side have contacted the Blaugrana regarding the acquisition of the French national.

Apart from the 28-year-old, Les Phoceens also have Eric Garcia on their radar. However, the former Sevilla defender is their top target to reinforce the backline in the coming weeks.

As things stand, Spurs are also looking to get a hold of Lenglet’s signature. However, the La Liga outfit want €15 million for the centre-back. To that end, the North London side have stopped negotiations with the Catalan giants for now.

Barcelona signed the French national from Sevilla in the summer of 2018. Subsequently, he was a key player for the Spanish side until the arrival of Xavi in their dugout.

At the moment, the La Liga outfit have the likes of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Garcia at their disposal. Therefore, competition for places in the Balugrana’s defence is high.

Lenglet spent the 2022/23 term on loan at Tottenham. The French national was a key player for us. He made 35 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

However, Spurs struggled to keep clean sheets and hold on to leads last season. The Barcelona defender was a part of the problem. Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies also left a lot to be desired.

The 28-year-old would prefer a move to the Premier League. We could evidently do with more depth in our backline. However, it remains to be seen whether Marseille will be able to beat us to the centre-back’s signing.
