Son Heung-min ready for new season at Tottenham Hotspur after injury issues
Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min is ready to take the upcoming campaign by storm after struggling with an injury in the 2022/23 term.
Last season, the South Korea international was not at his best. The forward started off slow and struggled to make a big enough impact. He ended with 14 goals and six assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.
However, Son did not look like his usual self. The 31-year-old was our talisman and won the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021/22 term. Speaking via The Athletic (Subscription Required), the forward revealed that fitness issues and pain held him back in the previous campaign.
“It was really tough moments. I’m the type who is always hiding the pain. Last season, (I spent) the whole season in pain. It was incredible. I can’t even think about the pain, you know.
“Now I feel really good, fresh. The physios are still working on it, because it has only been a week to 10 days (training), so I’m looking forward to being in good shape. I’m ready to rock and roll.”
It now makes a bit of sense why the South Korean looked completely off of his game last season. The 31-year-old’s influence on the pitch was unremarkable.
Tottenham signed Son in the summer of 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen. At the North London side, the forward has grown from strength to strength and has become an influential member of the team.
The South Korean’s partnership with Harry Kane has been one to behold over the years. But the English skipper had to carry the attack in the previous campaign.
Apart from the 29-year-old, none of our attackers made a considerable contribution up front. Spurs had to rely on the striker, who found the back of the net 30 times in 38 league matches for us.
Richarlison had a tough time during his debut season at Tottenham. Dejan Kulusevski was also unable to consistently feature for the Lilywhites due to injuries.

Son has been influential at Spurs. Without the 31-year-old at the top of his game, the North London side lost a lot of threat up front. Hopefully, the South Korean will find his form once again in the 2023/24 term.
