Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a £16 million offer from Atletico Madrid for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
According to the Times (subscription required), Atletico Madrid have been seen rebuffed a £16 million offer for talented Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Danish midfield ace is widely expected to leave the N17 this summer after seemingly having fallen out of favour under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Atletico Madrid have been the team most interested in the player.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a very talented midfielder with a lot of quality. Ever since his move from Southampton to Tottenham, the player has been a great servant for the club and his quality has always shone through.
The industrious midfielder has remained a constant in the line-up despite the slew of managerial changes at the club and it is not without reason that every manager until now actually trusted him.
Now though, Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou seem to be heading in a different direction with respect to play style. In the fluid attacking system that the Australian is trying to deploy, Hojbjerg does not have a role.
Postecoglou has a clear preference for how he wants his midfielders to play and if he thinks that Hojbjerg is not the man for the job, then maybe he isn’t. However, Tottenham Hotspur will not sell him for a cut price.
Atletico Madrid’s opening offer for the player was a disgrace and Tottenham have rightly rejected that. The Dane is much more worth than the fee they are offering and if they are serious, they must come up with a better offer.
Hojbjerg is a player who would suit a Diego Simeone team like a glove. The chance of playing in Spain for one of the biggest clubs in that league should be enticing enough for Hojbjerg. For Tottenham, we get the money and we move on.
