Atletico Madrid boss coy when asked about Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid has revealed that the La Liga outfit have a few options on the table when asked about Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Denmark international has been linked with a move away from the North London side this summer. To that end, Los Rojiblancos are interested in acquiring the services of the 27-year-old in the ongoing transfer window, according to Spanish outlet AS.
Speaking to the same publication, Simeone was coy regarding a move for Hojbjerg. The Argentine manager disclosed that Atletico will make a decision soon regarding the engine room.
“There are names with which the club works to favor the need-obligation situation. The club will decide.”
Los Rojiblancos have parted ways with Geoffrey Kondogbia recently. The 30-year-old joined Olympique Marseille. The La Liga outfit have 34-year-old Axel Witsel as the other option capable of playing in the number six position.
Tottenham signed Hojbjerg in the summer of 2020 from Southampton. The Danish national has had a long footballing journey, playing for Bayern Munich before moving to the Premier League.
After impressing with the Saints, the North London side got a hold of his signature. The 27-year-old has been a pivotal player for us over the years. In the previous campaign, he made 44 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
Ange Postecoglou has Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp at his disposal who are capable of playing as the holding midfielders. The Australian also has Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr in the ranks.
But Hojbjerg was one of the few players who had a decent 2022/23 term at Tottenham. Overall, most of our stars were underwhelming. Also, the midfielder is one of our leaders on the pitch.

If we do end up parting ways with him, reinforcements will be required. However, it remains to be seen whether Atletico will be able to come to terms with Spurs for the Danish national.
