AC Milan interested in Tottenham Hotspur target and Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet

Tottenham Hotspur target and Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is attracting interest from AC Milan this summer, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport via Italian outlet CalcioMercato.it.

The Rossoneri have set their sights on the French national to bolster their backline in the ongoing transfer window. In the past, the 28-year-old has been linked with other big teams in Serie A.

As things stand, the centre-back looks to be out of the project at the Blaugrana. Therefore, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Tottenham are in talks to sign Lenglet from the Catalan outfit, as per Spanish outlet Sport. The defender spent the 2022/23 term on loan at the North London side and established himself as a key player.

While the French national was not a regular fixture in our defence, he ended up starting in 24 Premier League matches for Spurs last season. The centre-back had his moments at the Lilywhites but was also culpable for a few goals.

Barcelona signed Lenglet in the summer of 2018 from Sevilla. Initially, he was influential at the La Liga giants. However, since Xavi’s arrival, the defender has seen his game time dwindle at the Blaugrana.

The Spanish outfit have an abundance of talent in their backline. Ronald Araujo, Kules Jounde, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia and Inigo Martinez are all capable centre-backs.

On the other hand, Cristian Romero has been the only reliable option for Tottenham. The likes of Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga have left a lot to be desired over the years.

Therefore, we evidently need to add more quality and depth to our squad. But with Milan joining the race, will the North London side be able to get Lenglet? Only time will tell.
