Tottenham have a two-step plan to replace Harry Kane
According to the Athletic (subscription required), Tottenham Hotspur have a detailed two-step plan to replace Harry Kane, who has now joined Bayern Munich.
It was announced officially yesterday that the English superstar had left Spurs after 19 years to start a new challenge in Germany. He has already played his first game for Bayern which the Bavarian giants lost 0-3 to RB Leipzig.
Tottenham have been apparently planning their contingency plans keeping in mind the exit of Kane for quite some time now. It has now been claimed that the club have an interesting two-step plan to replace our former star.
The first part of this plan would be to sign a young, exciting striker this summer and bet on him until January. One name being linked who fits this bill perfectly is Nigerian sensation Gift Orban.
Orban would represent a less expensive option with high potential, someone the club could bet on for the future. The fact that the 21-year-old already possesses a lethal finish only helps the cause.
The second part of this step would be to move for someone like Ivan Toney in January. The English striker who plays for Brentford is considered a like-for-like replacement for Kane but he will be unavailable until then due to a ban related to betting.
Although it does look like Tottenham already have a clear plan on how to replace Kane, there are some loopholes. The first thing would be the fact that we must not forget we have Richarlison in the squad.
If we sign a young striker like Orban right now and rotate him with Richarlison until January before we sign Toney, then one of the former two will have to be shipped out as all three of them cannot get regular game time.
Our wings are relatively well-stacked so there cannot be the option of playing Richarlison out wide as well. Even if that is an option, the Brazilian works best when deployed as a number-nine.
