Ange Postecoglou: Tottenham Hotspur have ‘moved on’ from Harry Kane after Brentford draw
Ange Postecoglou claimed that Tottenham Hotspur had moved on from Harry Kane’s exit after his team played out a 2-2 draw against Brentford on Sunday.
Spurs lost Kane to Bayern Munich earlier this week. They are potentially €120million richer but all that money doesn’t mean a lot when a club legend like Kane leaves.
There was an air of sadness surrounding this game as we lined up for the first time without Kane in ages. But once the game kicked off, the 30-year-old’s exit was in the past.
Fans were treated to a brilliant performance by new signing James Maddison, who got two assists in the game. As expected, Richarlison started up front in Kane’s absence.
Life without Kane at Spurs
Cristian Romero opened the scoring for us with a great header from a Maddison free-kick. Two Brentford goals were then met by a cracking long-range effort from Emerson Royal around the half-time mark.
Spurs struggled to create a lot in the second half and every wasted chance was met with the thought ‘what would have happened if Kane was playing’. After the game, Postecoglou was asked about the Englishman’s move to Bayern. He said, via Sky Sports:
“Football clubs move on pretty quickly I haven’t needed to address it, I haven’t needed to give them a warm fuzzy cuddle just to see how they are. We had a game to prepare for and they knew that.”
What’s done is done. From the start of the summer window, there was a feeling that Kane would leave Spurs. The longer he left his contract situation resolved, the more evident it became that he wanted out.

It is now on us to invest this money sensibly. The game against Brentford showed that we have a strong team but that there is still depth to be added up front. It is never easy replacing the club’s all-time top scorer but we can’t not try.
