Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham look at £50m Arsenal star Folarin Balogun as Harry Kane replacement

In a surprising bit of news, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun as they search for Harry Kane’s heir.

The Englishman has, of course, joined Bayern Munich earlier this week. This has left us with a clear need to sign a replacement.

According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Football.London), Balogun has been cited as an option for Spurs. He is apparently keen for a chance in the Premier League, and Tottenham could provide that.

Balogun was loaned to Stade Reims last season, where he excelled, scoring 21 goals in 37 games. That has obviously sky-rocketed his valuation, with the Gunners seeking £50million for the 22-year-old New York-born striker.

Wise move?

Obviously, he is young, talented and a homegrown player. But the fact remains that he isn’t proven in England, having made just two senior appearances for the Gunners.

Neither was Kane, but when he came into this team under Tim Sherwood, he wasn’t really replacing a tried and tested legendary No. 9 here.

What we need now is a player who can shoulder the responsibility of being Kane’s successor. Or at least, understand that he would have to be the face of such a concept.

Whoever we sign up front in the No. 9 role, no matter for what role or purpose — if they are a high-profile name or an up-and-coming youngster, they will be billed as Kane’s successor.

Balogun doesn’t really convince right now to be a replacement for England and Spurs’ most prolific player of all time. Moreover, one can imagine Arsenal making this transfer a nightmare given they are our arch-rivals.
