Tottenham are looking to appoint Mateu Alemany as new sporting director
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to appoint Mateu Alemany as their new sporting director in September once he leaves Barcelona.
It was announced earlier today that the Spanish sporting director is set to leave Barcelona on September 2 following the conclusion of the current transfer window. Brazilian legend Deco is set to replace him.
Alemany was close to leaving the club in June but performed a remarkable U-Turn in the 11th hour. However, things seem to have changed again with the sporting director set to leave imminently.
Fabio Paratici had to leave his post at Tottenham due to the ban imposed on him with regards to his time at Juventus. Since then, the North London club have been forced to operate without a specific director in place.
Alemany’s works in Barcelona have earned him a lot of plaudits. Being in charge of a club during one of their worst financial times, he has done a great job in making the Spanish club competitive again.
It was largely due to his negotiation skills that Barcelona managed to sign and register Jules Kounde, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie – all in one transfer window.
Even this summer, Alemany would have really had a key role to play in Barcelona signing Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez and Oriol Romeu. The reasons why he is leaving the Spanish club are still not known.
Alemany has the reputation of being one of the best sporting directors in the world. Tottenham would really benefit from having him at their disposal and we should try and convince him to come here.
