Cristian Romero reveals Giovani Lo Celso wants to stay at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur vice-captain Cristian Romero has revealed that his compatriot Giovani Lo Celso wants to stay at the club this summer.
The Argentine midfielder has been linked with a move away from the North London side in the ongoing transfer window, as per Italian journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter. However, the 27-year-old impressed during pre-season, finding the back of the net on a few occasions.
Lo Celso has found life difficult over the years at Spurs. In January 2022, the playmaker joined Villarreal on loan. Subsequently, he spent the 2022/23 term with the Yellow Submarines as well.
However, speaking to the Evening Standard, Romero disclosed that his compatriot wants to stay put at Tottenham. The 25-year-old defender also believes the Argentine midfielder can help the Lilywhites a lot.
“Gio is a fantastic player. Obviously, I know him, he’s my friend, but Gio the player can bring so much to Tottenham.
“He’s an intelligent player, he can bring so much to the forwards. I hope he can stay and he has chances. I know he wants to stay. He’s willing, he wants to compete and have a great year in the Premier League. That’s really important.”
Lo Celso has regularly showcased his talent while out on loan or with the national side. Unfortunately, the midfielder has been unable to make a big enough impact at the North London side.
Spurs acquired the services of the Argentine in the summer of 2019 from Real Betis. Subsequently, he enjoyed a decent debut campaign at the club.
However, since then, Lo Celso has not done much in a Tottenham shirt. However, it remains to be seen whether Postecoglou will give the midfielder opportunities at the North London side this season.
The gaffer has the likes of Yves Bissouam, Pape Matar Sarr, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp at his disposal. In the number 10 position, James Maddison has gone off to a flying start at Spurs.
