Tottenham baffled by Hugo Lloris decision to snub Nice on deadline day
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur have been left baffled by the decision of longtime number-one keeper Hugo Lloris to snub French club Nice and stay at the N17 despite clearly not featuring in the plans of Ange Postecoglou.
Throughout the summer, it seemed like Lloris would leave the club, especially after the signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli. It was made clear very early on that Postecoglou did not trust the French World Cup winner.
After the horrendous season that the Frenchman had in between the sticks for Tottenham last time around, It was clear that father time was catching up with Hugo Lloris and Tottenham needed a replacement in the long run.
Vicario from Empoli represents the perfect signing for Postecoglou. The talented goalkeeper is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and is able to play out from the back like the Australian manager wants his teams to do.
The Italian has had a great start to life at the N17, much like Postecoglou and the team itself. The club are scoring much more goals and also playing much more attractive football than they used to last time around.
Wins like the 5-2 against Burnley only accentuate this point further. Despite the exit of Harry Kane which was supposed to be a body blow for the club, it looks like Postecoglou has enough tricks up his sleeve to cushion the blow.
Lloris still finds himself at Tottenham after the transfer window has closed and is very likely to be a peripheral figure for the next six months at least. There seems to be no way of him working his way back into Postecoglou’s plans and rightly so.
It is still very early days but Postecoglou seems to be building an impressive project at Tottenham. From here on we must only keep going forward and integrating Lloris back into the side would represent the exact opposite.
