James Maddison take a potshot at England teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold after Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool VAR fracas

James Maddison and Trent Alexander Arnold might be England teammates but were at opposite ends of the fence when Tottenham Hotspur faced Liverpool in the Premier League earlier this month.

While Spurs came out 2-1 on top, the match was embroiled in controversy thanks to incompetent referees in the VAR room. While we got the rub of the green, the Reds were left fuming at some arguably wrong decisions that went against them.

In the aftermath of the game, there were some calls for the game to be replayed given the magnanimity of the VAR error. Jurgen Klopp also stroked flames by claiming that as football fan, he would like the match to be replayed. In his defence, however, he did also claim it was infeasible.

The topic has not yet died down and now appears to be a point of conversation in the English camp. Given that there are players from both ends of the spectrum within Gareth Southgate’s roster, debates and disagreements are inevitable.

Maddison and Trent just had such a moment that might not be for the faint of heart. The Spurs ace posted a photograph of him and Trent in conversation on Instagram (h/t The Metro) titled ‘Still asking for a replay’.

While some will find it funny, it is nothing but banter between two teammates who appear to get along well while fighting for a common cause. The Three Lions face Australia in a friendly before going up against Ukraine in the European Championship qualifier.

While Tottenham should have done better that night against a nine-man Liverpool side, luck favoured us in the end and we will take it. Both teams will be right up there when it comes to the fight for a top four finish. Hopefully, luck will continue to shine for us come the final day of the campaign.

In football, there are many hits and misses. Some decisions go against us and some others in our favour. Had the roles been reversed, we would have been equally livid as Liverpool are right now. While they can harper over what could have been, we roll onto bigger challenges.
