Pape Matar Sarr talks about the ‘family’ culture at Tottenham Hotspur
There are a few footballing stories that always bring a smile to one’s face. There are a few footballers who when they play or even talk, always bring a smile to your face, like Chelsea legend N’golo Kante.
Tottenham Hotspur have one such player in their ranks – Pape Matar Sarr. The 21-year-old Senegalese star is as unassuming as they get and always brings a smile to your face with his innocence.
On the field though, one might be forgiven for thinking he might be 26-27, considering the maturity he shows. He has been running the show in midfield alongside Yves Bissouma, another star in the making.
Despite his lean and slender structure and slight build, Pape does not seem to have any issues with handling the intensity and the physicality of the Premier League. It shows the immense quality and the talent that he possesses.
Off-the-field though, you can see the innocence whenever he talks. Speaking in a video for the official Premier League website, Pape Matar Sarr spoke about the ‘family’ culture at Tottenham
“I grew up in a footballing family, they drilled a hard-working mentality into me regarding football. They always prepared me to be successful. Here, we are a family. I am someone who likes to have fun and live in the present, I’m here to make the most of my time with my teammates”
Anyone who has seen Tottenham play this season can see the sense of family that Sarr is talking about. The players seem to want to play for each other on the pitch and more importantly, for their “dad”, Ange Postecoglou.

Placing trust in youngsters that Tottenham saw a lot under Mauricio Pochettino all those years ago but seem to have forgotten about under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte since then. Postecoglou has brought that back into the culture.
Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicarion, Micky van de Ven, Sarr, Bissouma, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Oliver Skipp, Brennan Johnson, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski are all under the age of 30 and they are some of the most prominent members of Postecoglou’s star cast.
