Pundit highlights Tottenham Hotspur’s ‘biggest’ James Maddison ‘fear’ this season
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes Spurs will fear James Maddison getting injured this season.
The Lilywhites signed Maddison from Leicester City for a fee of £40million. Given Leicester City’s relegation, some would have called the fee a bit steep.
But he has proven to be worth every penny we paid to the Foxes. Maddison has become our chief creator in attack and is a brilliant asset on and off the ball.
He is one of the leaders on the pitch and at 26, is in the prime years of his career. Maddison isn’t a striker, so it can’t be said that he replaced Harry Kane up front.
But he has, to an extent, made up for some of the aura and impact that Kane provided on the pitch — a player who wasn’t afraid to take the ball and make something happen when his team needed him the most.
Such has been his impact that fans and pundits are saying Maddison will be key to any potential title challenge Spurs put up this season. Jenas believes the same. He told TNT Sports:
“He has transformed a team on his own. That is the biggest fear for Spurs, his fitness and maintaining that all year. If you take him out of that team it is totally different. He is a top-class talent on the verge of being a world class talent as soon as he gets on that stage…”
Every team needs that spark. Maddison is ours. Tottenham don’t have a lot of game-changers on paper, at least when compared to the likes of Manchester City and even Liverpool.

The same applies to depth. But we are playing as a team this season, one that is willing to run through a brick wall for Ange Postecoglou. There is no reason why we can’t win it.
But yes, fitness of key players will be imperative, like it is for any other team.
