Jamie O’Hara says Tottenham are ‘finished’ if they lose James Maddison to injury

Jamie O’Hara has said that Tottenham Hotspur will be ‘finished’ this season if they lose James Maddison to injury.

Hopefully, the former Tottenham midfielder doesn’t jinx Maddison’s good form here. He has been absolutely sensational since his £40million transfer from Leicester City in the summer, scoring two goals and providing five assists in nine games for his new club.

He was already made vice-captain in August, which shows Ange Postecoglou’s immense trust in the 26-year-old. Leadership is one of Maddison’s most underrated qualities, after all.

Tottenham have the chance to retain their spot at the top of the table today if they beat Fulham in the Premier League. They can then open up a two-point lead over Arsenal and Manchester City.

Is O’Hara right?

Before the game at Craven Cottage, O’Hara gave his view on Tottenham’s season. He said the club would be ‘finished’ if their star playmaker is injured. He told Grosvenor Sport (h/t TeamTalk):

“They have a similar situation to Arsenal last season in that if they lose a couple of key players to injury they’ll be in a lot of trouble. If they lose James Maddison to injury, they’re finished.”

In all fairness, he also went on to acknowledge Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min’s importance to the team, saying that their injuries would also be damaging to Tottenham.

But the fact that the first name that popped into his mind was that of Maddison shows the impression the England international has already left on people. He isn’t really a Harry Kane replacement.

But he is someone other Spurs players are looking at when the going gets tough. He seems to be our chief creator, and he is also a good source of goals considering his set-piece and long-range shooting abilities.

Hopefully, Maddison has an injury-free season. If he does, there is no reason why we can’t challenge and win the Premier League title.
