Ange Postecoglou lavishes praise on Tottenham ace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg following Fulham masterclass
Ange Postecoglou has gotten the best out of several Tottenham Hotspur stars this season and one can now add Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to that list.
The Danish ace appeared to be on his way out of N-17 last summer and continues to be linked with a January exit as we near 2024. However, despite being in the sunset of his career as a Spurs star, his commitment on the field has not wavered.
This came to the fore against Fulham last night where he put on a stellar performance that saw us win the battle for midfield dominance. It helped swing the tie in our favour as Tottenham once again retained top spot in the Premier League standings.
Hojbjerg made his first start in the league for Tottenham last night. Going up against the likes of Joao Palhinha and Sasa Lukic is not easy but the Danish ace was up for the challenge and stepped up when the manager and the team needed him.
Speaking after the game via football.london, the Spurs boss admitted that Hojbjerg made the most of his opportunity and impressed. While the 28-year-old is far from a first-XI regular anymore, Postecoglou is convinced that Hojbjerg remains a top contributor.
“He’s been very influential. Every player wants to start but for me it’s not just the players who start but it’s about those who contribute, and he’s been a contributor all year.”
While it is still too early to call us genuine title challengers, we need all the players to step up should we go on to do the unexpected. A league title is won over a whole season and we cannot just depend on the first XI to always come through.
Hojbjerg’s performance is in a way, a reflection of Postecoglou’s impact at Spurs. The Australian knows how to get the best out of his players and is today a rallying point for players both on and off the field.
