Tottenham outcast to leave in January; France, Arabia, and Turkey will ‘knock’ on the door

Date:

Tottenham Hotspur outcast Hugo Lloris will leave the club in January amidst multiple interest

It is funny how a year can change everything in football and Hugo Lloris is experiencing it first-hand in Tottenham Hotspur as he has been completely sidelined from the first-team plans for the current season.

Lloris was the captain and the starting goalkeeper for the club until last season but he has seen a massive downgrade now. The Frenchman has not taken part since the pre-season and everyone assumed he would leave.

However, the 36-year-old stayed put at Tottenham despite the arrival of someone like Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli. Ange Postecoglou went with the latter as his preferred choice in between the sticks.

For a player who has been of immense service to the club for more than a decade, it is a very sorry state of affairs for Lloris. Pushed into oblivion, it would only make sense if he made a move away from the club in January.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Lloris has interest from France, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and it is expected that these clubs will come knocking in January. It is high time the Frenchman accepted one of these and moved on.

A 2018 World Cup winner and a 2022 World Cup runner-up, not many people can boast of an illustrious career like the one that Lloris has had. Not many could have envisioned the steep downfall either.

With all due respect to Hugo Lloris, it was clear last season that his time at Tottenham was over. All parties seemed to make peace with it and it came as an immense surprise that he remained at the club when the transfer window closed.

It is very difficult to deal with such a situation with someone like Lloris who is a club legend in his own right. The Frenchman and the club have a long-standing relationship that neither party will want to jeopardize.

Come January, it will be a huge surprise if Lloris does not move away from the club. But then, that’s what we thought all summer too. Let’s wait and see how this one goes.
