Tottenham star Son Heung-min on being in a goal-scoring competition with Harry Kane
Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-min has given his verdict on being in a goal-scoring competition with Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.
The South Korean was on target again, scoring Spurs’ second goal as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Friday. A neat assist from Brennan Johnson in the 66th minute found Son in the box.
And he made no mistake with his finish. Son has taken on a lot of the goal-scoring burden for Tottenham since Kane’s move to Bayern Munich in the summer. The England international is in brilliant form there, registering 11 goals and six assists in 12 games.
Son, meanwhile, has eight goals and an assist in 11 games for us. He has scored some important goals this season and the one against the Eagles proved to be the winner given Jordan Ayew’s late equalise.
Son in top form
After the game, Son was asked if he was in a goal-scoring competition with Kane. He replied to Sky Sports (h/t BBC):
“Not really, Harry is on another level from me. When you see Bundesliga is another tough league and he is absolutely killing it so I am very happy for him.”
Spurs are top of the table with a five-point lead after 10 matches. That is after Kane left and Ange Postecoglou didn’t sign a like-for-like replacement for the club’s record goal-scorer.
Our good form is down to a lot of factors but mainly it is because of Son’s form. There was a phase last season where he wasn’t scoring regularly, and many doubted him.
